St. Anthony’s Lost & Found: A Poetry Exchange

Overview

San Antonio’s third-appointed Poet Laureate, Jenny Browne, is leading a multi-faceted project for the City of San Antonio’s 300th Anniversary Celebration entitled St. Anthony’s Lost & Found: A Poetry Exchange.

This project is grounded in the history of San Antonio, focusing on the City’s namesake St. Anthony de Padua, and on the broader concepts of poetic naming, loss and letter poems. St. Anthony’s Lost & Found will highlight the ability of poetry to function as a practice of self-expression, collaborative cultural exchange and community building, through a series of educator workshops, creating an accessible classroom curriculum, and culminating in an exhibit in 2018 at the Plaza de Armas Gallery.

Educator Workshop

Jenny Browne will lead a series of workshops for local educators and City of San Antonio staff, demonstrating a toolkit of poetic prompts, materials and resources. These lessons will be incorporated into participating classrooms throughout San Antonio ISD, surrounding school districts, and San Antonio community centers and senior centers. Participants will create custom poetry journals and submit an elegiac (letter poem) poem response that will be mailed back to the City of San Antonio Plaza de Armas Gallery, to be incorporated into the 2018 Exhibit.

The workshop for local educators will be held on June 13th, 2017 at the Central Library Auditorium, in San Antonio Texas. For more information and to submit an application to attend please follow the download link below.
